Only 2 miles north of Los Angeles International Airport, Courtyard Los Angeles Westside offers hourly rooms with plenty of attractions nearby. Beyond a range of restaurants close to the day rooms, there’s the sun, sea, and sand of Venice Beach, and a stellar array of LA sites to visit, from Hollywood’s studios to fantastic historic (and prehistoric) museums.
Range of Restaurants – There’s an engaging selection of culinary styles close at hand, including fried and charbroiled seafood, chicken, and tacos at California Fish Grill. Fans of Japanese cuisine can find sushi, entrees and lunch specials at Kabuki Japanese Restaurant. Southern style treats including slow-cooked meats are on the menu at Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que, and other locally available styles include Chinese, Pakistani, and Mexican.
Venice Beach – Venice Beach lies straight west, where you can lie back and work on your tan, or take in the eclectic array of idiosyncratic shops and street performers. There’s a very laid back atmosphere, so if you just want to relax it’s the place to go.
See the Stars – Hollywood is the most famous movie city in the world, and replete with associated attractions. You can strut down the Walk of Fame, take photos at the iconic sign, or take advantage of numerous tours, including but not limited to Universal Studios and Sony Pictures. But if you want to see some real stars then head for the Griffith Observatory, which is home to a great planetarium and public telescopes, as well as commanding spectacular views of the city below.
History and Prehistory – The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHM) exhibits literally millions of artifacts, from a zoo dedicated to insects all the way to the awesome skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Those interested in such prehistoric megafauna can also visit the unique La Brea Tar Pits, an Ice Age fossil excavation site the likes of which you won’t find anywhere else.
