Hampton Inn Ottumwa is off Highway 34, and provides day rooms with free Wi-Fi and free hot breakfasts (plus the day use rooms are pet-friendly if you have a four-legged companion). There’s outstanding natural beauty in the local area, whether visiting nearby parks or the more wild and challenging Garrison Rock, plus a great variety of restaurants close at hand.
Global Menu – Sinophiles will be glad to learn that one of the nearest restaurants is Jade Palace, which serves up Chinese delights. Barbecue fans are also conveniently near to Bubba-Q’s, and just a little to the east there’s a smorgasbord of dining options. If you’ve never tried Salvadoran and want to expand your horizons then try out Pupuseria Juanita’s Restaurant, but if Mexican’s your bag then Rancho Grande is just the ticket, and New American fare is on the menu at Appanoose Rapids.
Wapello County Historical Society & Museum – Wapello County Historical Society & Museum is a quaint and well-liked attraction that provides day visitors with some insight into the local area and features a wide range of images relevant to the county’s history.
Natural Beauty – A little to the east you’ll find Garrison Rock Resource Management Unit, a beautiful nature reserve with an admittedly clunky name. Hikers and climbers will find a lot to enjoy, including a pair of caverns to explore. There are opportunities for great photographs, but it’s worth mentioning that the terrain might be difficult for those with younger children or mobility issues.
Sycamore Park – Sycamore Park offers fun alongside the Des Moines River, whether that’s just a relaxing walk or enjoying the Beach Ottumwa water park. It’s a fine place to cool off in summer, and has plenty of nearby places to get food and drink.
We should mention
