Hotel Avante is a great day hotel for guests with cultural inclinations. The hotel itself has old school Ataris and Etch-A-Sketches, with local artwork peppering the walls. Global Menu – Masa Sushi Japan specializes in sushi rolls and nigiri, and the nearby Sushi Tomi serves up sushi and sashimi, providing fans of Japanese cuisine with plenty of choice. Turkish treats, including hummus, kebabs, and more, are on the menu at Cafe Baklava, whilst La Fontaine prepares both French and Italian dishes, plus there’s a full bar and pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven. Computer History – From loading games with cassette tapes through to the modern era of wireless internet connectivity, computers have advanced immeasurably in recent decades. This technological progress is commemorated at the Computer History Museum, which features exhibits on early pioneers and expansion of the internet.
Art Museum – The artistically inclined can while away the time perusing the exhibits at the Iris & B. Gerald Cantor Center for Visual Arts. Artwork both classic and contemporary is on display, including an outdoor sculpture garden studded with Rodin bronzes.
Shoreline – The Shoreline Lake Park is just to the north, and brimming with distractions for day guests. There’s a golf course, boat rentals for the lake, and trails where you can walk or cycle, plus a Victorian house museum. Nearby there’s also the Shoreline Amphitheatre, which hosts dozens of events every summer and is the largest venue of its kind in northern California.
