Soak in the Sun, Take a Dip in the Hotel Pool
Taking in the sunshine while poolside is a universal way to relax in style, but did you know that it can actually provide benefits beyond a calmed mind and nice tan?
Getting moderate ultraviolet (UV) rays can stimulate vitamin D production, which is important considering 40 percent of U.S. adults are vitamin-D deficient. This can cause the loss of bone density, osteoporosis and even broken bones. Vitamin D is a general boost for your immunity and functioning in your body, and is believed to protect against chronic conditions like depression, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and multiple sclerosis.
Eating foods like fish, egg yolks and dairy products can boost vitamin-D production as well, but doesn’t laying out near the pool sound like a more fun proposition?
Be sure to use sunscreen of at least SPF-30 or higher for sessions in the sun longer than 20 minutes. Make sure the sunscreen is water-resistant and protective against both UVA (long-term, associated with aging) and UVB (short-term, associated with burning) rays. If you sweat excessively or get in the water, be sure to reapply regularly. And lastly, don’t assume UV radiation and the temperature are always correlated. There are plenty of cloudy, cooler days with a high UV index.
Mix Work with Pleasure
Just because you’re looking for a pool to hang out at all day doesn’t mean it can’t be a productive experience. Bring your laptop and find an umbrella lounge chair to make progress on some administrative tasks that have been cluttering your to-do list.
Or spend a busy day full of calls poolside instead of at your home office; nobody will mind—and the atmosphere may give you an extra boost of creativity for those important brainstorming sessions.
Perhaps it’s your personal work that you’ve been wanting to focus on. What better way to work on outlines, expand on previous notes, or make headway on your latest draft than sitting by a tranquil pool on a sunny day? And anytime you want to take a quick break, get that body in the pool for a dip!
Squeeze in a Workout at the Hotel Gym
Rest, relaxation, mental productivity — nearly a complete day by many peoples’ standards. The only thing that could make it more proper is a physical workout. Maybe the dip in the pool turns into laps instead.
If you want to get out of the sun for a bit, mosey on down to the hotel’s fitness center for a run on the treadmill, some free-weight workouts, an elliptical exercise—whatever your ambitious self desires. I
