The Hotel Del Sol was once a 1950s motor lodge and today offers fun day rooms in the Marina District. Guests can take advantage of free Wi-Fi and the heated pool within the hotel, and beyond the door there are attractions from the famous sights of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge to great live performance venues.
Eclectic Eateries – French fare with innovative twists are served up at the nearby Atelier Crenn. American pub grub’s the order of the day at The Brazen Head, whilst Pacific Catch offers seafood treats influenced by the Pacific Rim. At Isa Restaurant Californian and French styles combine, whilst Thai food and American flavor mingle at Blackwood.
Golden Gate Bridge – Within walking distance of the day use rooms is Crissy Field, where trails wend their way through grassy fields and sandy beaches. But perhaps the main attraction is the great view offered of the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, making this a prime spot for souvenir photos.
Alcatraz – Across a short stretch of water is the infamous Alcatraz Island, home of the world-renowned prison where Al Capone was once a resident. Today it’s rather easier to enter and leave, with access by ferry and an audio tour to accompany you around the historic prison.
Live Performances – The waterfront Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture is a large complex of revamped former military buildings that today is dedicated to artistic and cultural programmes. Audiences are engaged with live performances, and the location offers views of both the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. Nearby, the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre puts on a wide variety of live performances, ranging from orchestral music to comedy.
